why did you create the Curious Wanderer Society?
We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. – Walt Disney
To be honest, the Curious Wanderer Society has been at least 12 years in the making.
I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t dreaming about exploring the world. For many years I couldn’t fathom that we would be out, wandering through the world, but it was still a major priority of mine to raise our kids to be super-curious about this amazing world we live in.
So even when our girls were tiny, we were reading books set in different countries, cooking recipes from half way around the world, researching celebrations from different cultures and seeing how we could introduce these to our family at home, and making crafts inspired by different places and people.
The bonus to all these things that we were doing to get our kiddos super-curious about the world, was that it was fostering my own curiosity, sating my wanderlust, and we were having loads of fun and learning TOGETHER.
When we started working on the Curious Wanderer Society earlier this year, we took all these ideas that have become a part of our family culture and started creating resources for other families who are keen to learn about the world together and bring a little magic and adventure to each day.
We truly believe that by raising children who are curious about the world, we are raising the next generation of adults to care deeply about planet earth and the people that inhabit it. It may seem like a lofty goal, but we hope that the Curious Wanderer Society will help families raise children who are empathetic, kind, creative problem solvers who really care about making a difference.
